Dr. Nikki Stewart is a proud Bronx Native, completing the majority of her education and earlier career in the borough where she was raised and loves. After graduating in 2000 with a bachelor’s degree in Health Education from the University of Mount Saint Vincent (Riverdale in the Bronx), Dr. Stewart attended Baruch College in New York City, completing her Masters in Public Administration in 2005. With her continued passion for understanding the roles of caregivers and the family they care for, Dr. Stewart went on to complete her doctoral studies in Education at St. John Fisher University, graduating in 2016. Her research focused on the resiliency of young adult males raised by African American grandmothers, who live in the Bronx.
Dr. Stewart has over 25 years of experience in the Health and Human Service field, in particular providing services and supports to older adults and their families. After serving 6 years in city government, Dr. Stewart saw the need to return to community service. Currently, she serves as the Deputy Executive Director for a local nonprofit within NYC, overseeing 5 departments (7 programs) from Older Adult programming to Mental Health Services, running an Article 31 Clinic and Geriatric Mental Health program. All services provided help individuals across the lifespan to live independently with dignity, as contributing members of the community.
Dr. Stewart is also an Adjunct Professor teaching leadership and management courses at St. John Fisher University and Antioch University, serves as the Chair of Research and Advocacy for Caregivers Outreach Mentorship Empowerment and is a board member for the Citywide Behavioral Health Coalition for Black Elders.
Dr. Stewart’s commitment to serving her community and nurturing the next generation of young women leaders is a continued and never ending passion of hers. She hopes to encourage and support young women leaders through services of YWL2 for may years to come.
